Race Report - Round 1

3 May 2009

ACJ members racing at Pukekohe Park, 3 May 2009It was a beautiful sunny Sunday with a big field entered for our first meeting, with over 140 race cars at the track.

For our series we had 13 entries, which was not quite enough to get a race on our own, so we were combined with the Production Saloons.

Qualifying saw prospective member Greg Silver fastest at 1.11.37, followed by Harry Dodson in what else but a Skyline, and then Ron Findlay in a 260Z.  Kurt Pearce was the fastest of the under-1600cc class, closely followed by Daniel Kent.

Race 1 saw the RX7 failing to get off the dummy grid, with Harry Dodson leading the field home with a best time of 1.08.16.  Peter Maddren did well with fourth overall and first in the under-1600 class, followed by Kurt, and Daniel right behind him.

ACJSRace 2 was held shortly after 2pm and was won again by Harry, with a best time of 1.08.18. Greg Silver in the RX7 was third overall with a best time of 1.10.61. Peter Maddren with startling consistency was first again in the under-1600s with a best time of 1.13.31.  Daniel was next, followed by Dave Greenfield. Kurt’s car gave problems in this race.

Race 3 was a handicap race and Harry again was the leading ACJS member with a best time of 1.07.48.  Dave Greenfield was next, followed by Peter Maddren.

It was a well-attended and good first race meeting of our series.
